Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, sports injuries are one of the many conditions we treat that fall into the category of orthopaedics. For more information on our other services, click here. Do I need a referral to be seen at your clinic? No, a referral is not needed to be seen at the clinic; however, if you have any extended healthcare coverage, your insurance company may require a referral to process your claim. If you do have a referral from your doctor, it can be brought in for your first appointment so that we may keep a copy for our records. It may also be faxed directly from your doctor's office to 613-599-6139. Are any of your services covered under OHIP? Unfortunately, Physiotherapy is no longer covered under OHIP, except for under specific circumstances. However, Kanata Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Clinic offers Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy and Orthotics services, which are covered by most extended healthcare plans. To determine the level of your coverage, consult your benefits handbook provided to you by your employer or contact your extended healthcare carrier. Can you bill directly to my insurance company? Most extended health insurance companies currently do not accept direct billing from Physiotherapy clinics. We take payment upon each visit and provide you with receipts, which you can then claim through to your insurance company. We are only able to bill directly for approved Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) claims, approved Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims, and for those with Blue Cross coverage through RCMP, National Defense, Canadian Forces and Veterans Affairs Canada. How long will I need to come in for treatment before I get better? The frequency and length of your treatment will depend on several factors, including the nature and severity of your condition. Your therapist may provide you with a better idea of a timeframe when you come in for your first appointment and discuss your treatment goals with you. What can I expect on my first visit? Your therapist will take a thorough history and review your current condition(s). Any relevant assessments will then be performed to determine goals specific to your individual needs. Your first treatment is also included with the cost of your initial assessment. Also see Physiotherapy and You - "What can I expect at my first physiotherapy visit?" The initial appointment lasts approximately one hour. Subsequent treatment visits can range from about 45 minutes up to one hour in length, depending on your condition and program. Are your therapists registered in Ontario? Yes, we only employ registered Physiotherapists and Massage Therapists. Do you accept Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims? Yes, we do. We are also able to bill to WSIB on your behalf, as long as your claim is approved, so you do not have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. We are also able to bill to your motor vehicle insurer on your behalf, as long as your claim is approved, and after payments have been made by your extended healthcare coverage (if any).
